  1. Missing Cat – Saturday afternoon my cat Leuven disappeared on East Lake Desire. Have you seen a tabby with a white chest and legs?  Submitted by Dorothy Paun, to.e@comcast.net, 425.503.0234. Many thanks, Dorothy
  2. Shoreline Master Program Meeting Recap – A neighbor attended the Shoreline Master Program Public Hearing on October 21. At the opening of the meeting, the project planner stated that Lake Desire is included in the in the Renton shoreline jurisdiction because it is in "Renton's planning area" but they are making "no assumption" about whether or not Lake Desire will eventually be annexed to Renton. The majority of the meeting was dominated by public comments from lawyers and biologists representing property interests at Barbee Mill on Lake Washington and Stoneway Concrete on Cedar River, so obviously some land owners think this is a very important issue.  She thinks the most important thing for Lake Desire residents to do is to be aware of the proposed standards, which might be different than the shoreline property standards we currently follow under King County. If Renton adopts the proposed Shoreline Master Program, and if we become Renton, any alteration to your property will be required to comply with these new standards. To see the documents for the proposed Renton Shoreline Master Program, go to http://shoreline.rentonwa.gov. Submitted by Suzy Gillett, suzy.gillett@gmail.com.
  3. Planning Commission Deliberations and Recommendation: Wednesday, November 18, 2009 (tentative)
  4. House Fire Update – Here is the latest on Ron. Nick visited the hospital Wed. night, and he was up and talking. They even went for a walk around the unit that he is in. He is hoping that he will be out in a week or two. He is looking good and doing well. Submitted by Nick Vacca, mnvacca@yahoo.com.
  5. Lake Desire Horse Passed Away – Our beloved horse Zzimmer unexpectedly died. On Sunday morning when we went out to feed, we found him in great distress. It appeared he had been up all night rolling in the paddock and was completely exhausted. We put him in our trailer and raced him to the vet. He was diagnosed with a bowel obstruction and enlarged spleen, commonly called “Colic” if you speak horse. The doctor was able to reduce the swelling and clear his blockage, his blood work only indicated muscle stress or damage, one would expected from his rough night.  Zzimmer stayed at the vet all day. By 4 pm the doctor was now pretty confident that Zzimmer had Peritonitis brought on by his Colic even and should be able to be treated with Antibiotics. He would need to stay with the vet at least over night, but overall, Zzimmer seemed to be doing well. He was getting lonely in their empty barn and the vet had to borrow a neighbors horse to keep him company –also a favorable sign.  But the vet called back 3 hours later, and said that Zzimmer took a turn for the worse in the previous hour. He developed severe pain and abdominal bloating. The vet did what he could for Zzimmer but knew we had lost this battle. He called Sonja to tell her and to get her permission to end Zzimmer’s suffering. The Vet believes that Zzimmer likely twisted his bowel when he developed Colic and a portion of the bowel died becoming necrotic. Zimmer is being cremated and his remains will come back to his home. His lifelong stable mate Aubany has never known life without her Uncle Zzimmer. She showed us how much she missed him within hours of us taking him to the vet calling and waiting for him to return. Our very dear friend Shane loaned us his HUMONGUS Morgan horse to be a stable mate and surrogate Uncle to Aubany. Sonja and I want to thank all of our neighbors and friends on Lake Desire who over the years have helped bring the horses home when Zzimmer would undo the locks & escape.   He and Aubany would take full advantage of a forgotten latch and head out for a walk around the lake, even as recently as 2 weeks ago –sorry about your lawn, Dorothy! Your Neighbors Mark Dryer and Sonja Kairis Dryer, markdryer@gmail.com.
